Composer 2.0 automatically detects appliance type (for some industries) and then automatically orients and support the part for optimum printing outcomes.
Below is a guide to help optimise print accuracy and accuracy for a range of dental appliances.
Dental models
Part Orientation
Part orientation can be a major contributor to the output quality and accuracy of the object being printed.

Hollowing models
- Make sure hollow models have drain holes at the base of the models to prevent volumetric pressures from occuring. This creates a phenominom we call ‘Suction Cup’. Learn more here >
- Hollow models can still carry a lot of liquid resin in their cavities after printing. Especially with higher viscous materials. This can lead to increased cleaning efforts and quicker contamination of your cleaning solution.
Consider printing solid models over hollow models for process optimisation.

Oclussal Splints / Night Guards
Part Orientation
For orientation of splints please refer to the guidelines of the material manufacturer. As a general guide it is typically best to orient the splint with the posterior closest to the platform standing vertically or angled between 5-30 degrees from vertical.

Design tips
- A 50-100 µm spacing between the denture base & tooth is recommended for best fitment.
- Some material manufacturers recommend adding a minimum of one structural bar to bridge between the two sides of the arch. This can in some cases prevent warping which can be more prominent for lower dentures.

Surgical Guides
Part Orientation
To achieve an optimum fit with an implant sleeve we recommend orienting the guide so that the sleeve sits perpendicular to the build platform.
